August "Gus" Derle

August "Gus" Derle, age 64, of Wilmington died at home on Monday September 10, 2012.

After graduating from Widener University, Gus had three professions throughout his life. He worked for 20 years in shipbuilding, 10 years in school administration for adult education and in defense for General Dynamics for the last 17 years.

Anyone that knew Gus also knew his love of baseball and since he was born in Boston, MA, especially the Red Sox. He owned his own semi-pro baseball team, the Derle Blue Sox and has coached countless baseball teams of all ages throughout the years. Gus also had a great love for music. He was the director of the Sign of Peace Youth group and taught guitar lessons. Gus was an active member of Del Vets and was also very active in the parishes of Holy Rosary and Holy Child where he taught CCD and was a Eucharistic Minister.

Gus is survived by his wife and best friend, Margaret "Peggy" Derle, two sons Chris (Angie) and Glenn Derle, two granddaughters Emily and Allison Derle, two sisters Terry Rovalis and Donna Derle-Cabral and brother Richard Derle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Saturday September 15, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road. Friends may call at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike from 6 to 8 pm on Friday September 14. Burial will follow Mass in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
