Text Box:  J. Thomas "Tom" Schranck Age 77 of Claymont, DE died Thursday, July 18, 2002 in the Wilmington Hospital.

Tom had been a member of IBEW Local #313 in Wilmington since 1946 and served as recording secretary, assistant business agent and on the executive board.

From 1964-1973 he was president of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Delaware and was also vice president of the AFL/CIO State Labor Council. He served as Secretary of Labor for the State of Delaware from 1973-1977. From 1977-1982 he was the regional representative for region 3 for the U.S. Department of Labor, covering 5 states and the District of Columbia. He served as the OSHA supervisor for the District of Delaware from 1982-1985.

Tom was a member and chairman of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs from 1996-2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He attended Colgate University, Roanoke College, and the universities of North Carolina, Georgia and Iowa as part of the Navy V-5 program. He also attended the LaSalle Extension University School of Law.

Tom was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the Delaware Veterans Post #1 and Korea Post #1.

Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith S. Schranck; 2 daughters, Christina S. Brennan of Claymont and Susan S. Baer and her husband, Robert E. Baer of ilmington; 1 brother, Joseph C. Schranck of Rehoboth, DE; 1 sister, Joan S. Hayes of Newport; and 2 granddaughters, Kerry Brennan of Staten Island, NY and Specialist Shannon Brennan, U.S. Army, Germany.

Funeral service were held at 11 am on Monday morning, July 22 in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. Friends were invited to call at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Sharpley, Wilmington Sunday evening, July 21 from 7-8:30 pm.
