John W. Taylor, Jr.


John W. Taylor, Jr., age 94 John W. Taylor, Jr., age 94, of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Chester, PA, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

 

Mr. Taylor was born on June 27, 1919, to the late John W. and Hannah Smith Taylor. John was a graduate of Chester High School, and a veteran of the US Army, who served during World War II.

 

Mr. Taylor was a member of Siloam UM Church, Bethel Twp., PA, and a former member of Trinity UM Church, Chester, PA. A top Delaware County law enforcement officer, Mr. Taylor served as Deputy Chief of the Chester Police Department and later served 3 terms as Sheriff. A kind and caring man, who could be counted on to get the job done, he served on the Delaware County Council and was a long-time member of the Chester Rural Cemetery Board of Directors.

 

He was a member of Chester Masonic Lodge #236 F&AM, Tall Cedars, Consistory and Lulu Shrine Temple. Mr. Taylor served as past President of the Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police and as a member of the Delaware County Firemen's Association. He was also past President and Foreman of the Moyamensing Hook and Ladder Company of Chester, PA Mr. Taylor was the loving husband of the late Roberta Hendershot Taylor, who died in 1978.

 

Survivors: Daughter: Ann (George) Wenner; Son: John W. "Jack" (Carol) Taylor, III; 5 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren. As an only child, John was surrounded by many loving relatives. He is also survived by his Sister-in-law: Ethel (Tom) Carpenter and a special friend Edie McDade. Funeral Service: Tuesday, 11:00 AM, at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton Roads, Middletown Township, Media, PA Visitation: Monday, after 6:00 PM, where there will be a Masonic Service at 8:00 PM, by Chester Lodge #236 F&AM, and Tuesday, after 9:30 AM, at the funeral home.
