Jack Thomas passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2014
He was born in Wilmington to the late John and Beulah Thomas. Jack was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Jack Thomas Painting Contractor Company for over 40 years. He was a longtime member and Past Commander of Delaware Veterans Post #1, a member of the American Legion, and the Brandywine Lodge No. 33 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and gardening. He was known for his homegrown tomatoes.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis A. Thomas. Jack is survived by his 3 daughters, Susan Schatz (Joseph) and Cheryl Walters (Richard) and Jacqueline Durham (James) all of Wilmington; 8 grandchildren, Thomas, Michael and Mark Waski, Carolyn DeHaven, James and Joseph Whalen and John and Stephen Schmitt; 2 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, his twin Jean Sutton and Dorothy Jensen. Jack is also preceded in death by his sister Aileen Duhadaway.
A viewing will be held on Monday, August 18 from 6-8 pm at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, at 11 am, at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
